Sisters in Crime is thrilled to announce that Tartan Noir Queen, Val McDermid, will be its very first guest on its new weekly crime craft session, Murder Mondays, which premieres on YouTube at 6.00pm 11 May.
McDermid will be interrogated by Sisters in Crime national convenor, Karina Kilmore, to kickstart its free weekly Q&A video program celebrating women’s crime writing. Upcoming episodes include local Sisters, Dervla McTiernan, Anne Buist, Katherine Kovacic and Candice Fox.
“Val is very good friend of Sisters in Crime and has starred in six of our previous events,” Kilmore said.
“Val is a brilliant writer, a larger than life character, astute, funny and wildly generous. She has a massive fan base here in Australia and it’s no surprise as she has 45 best-selling crime books under her belt. This includes five series, including the Tony Hill/Carol Jordan books made into the hugely successful Wire in the Blood TV series. Not surprisingly, she has scored numerous awards, including the Cartier Diamond Dagger.”
Kilmore said that the pandemic had spurred Sisters in Crime to establish Murder Mondays.
“With the pandemic, many crime authors have limited opportunities to meet readers, with the cancellation of in-person launches or book events. Sisters in Crime figured we’d use Zoom and YouTube to go viral. The bonus is that it means we’ll all get to learn about the craft of crime writing.”
McDermid’s latest novel, How the Dead Speak, is the 11th in the Tony Hill/Carol Jordan series.
